Introducing taalmaster: A Free LingQ Alternative
Taalmaster is a free alternative to LingQ. All essential features you need for language learning are available for free. No more limit on the number of lingqs or imported resources. Only the features that cost us lots of money are premium. This includes stuff like:
- text to speech
- transcribing audio
- scanning handwritten submissions
Since we accurately want to capture your language learning progress across languages, we only track root forms of words, not inflected forms. So a spanish verb isn't counted 30 times as a new word, but only once. We strive to create a bug-free experience. Although we are not perfect, we are constantly working on improving our platform.
Since it should be enjoyable to work with all types of content, PDF files maintain their original format and aren't just the copied text content. This means that you can import any PDF file and it will look pretty much like the original.
The library offers many filters that can help language learners find the right content for them. This includes stuff like Words per Minute, the length of the content, and the CEFR rating. But we also have custom metrics such as the number of times other users had to lookup words in the text which can indicate the difficulty of the text.
The YouTube viewer has a nice layout and can be customized. Each lesson has an accompanying worksheet that contains reading comprehension questions to further improve your language skills.
This makes it harder to just passively consume content and forces you to actually learn the language.
Lastly, you can export your vocabulary to Anki. But we also have a built-in flashcard system that allows you to create flashcards from your vocabulary.
